At certain times of the year there are lots of people clamoring to "sell you basement water proofing." The main problem is how to compare the different companies competing for your business. Here are some questions to ask:

1) How long has the company been In business? Why risk your money with people who may be here today and gone tomorrow?

2) What is the Company's Performance Record?

3) What is their technical procedure?

4) What is their level of professional competence?

5) Are they waterproofing specialists?
Every spring and Fall, scores of new "waterproofing contractors" appear on the scene -- general contractors whose other business is slow, opportunists looking for a "fast dollar" during the peak periods, part timers looking for extra income. Waterproofing is a complex and difficult business and should not be entrusted to part-time amateurs.

6) Who is doing the actual work? Are they trained?

7) What is their warranty? Is it in writing? Is it a full warranty or merely a service policy?
The word "warranty" can cover a multitude of exceptions and conditions. Warranties should be examined carefully for "fine print" exclusions and conditions that can avoid the contractor's future obligations -- and which can leave the homeowners unprotected. Unfortunately, many homeowners have been shocked to discover, to their sorrow, that the "warranty" they thought they had, contained exclusions and conditions that made their warranty meaningless.

8) What about price?
If you are looking for a cheap price and a "hope" that the work performed will do the job, we can't help you. There are any number of people around with limited experience who will give you a "cheap" price. Differences in materials used, in workmanship, in the warranty, and, most importantly, in the experience to solve problems which come to light only after the jobs is started. These differences are great.
